Dysphagia may also have an impact on both the psychological and social well-being of the patient including:
- Fear of eating/choking
- Loss of interest in eating
- Feeling embarrassed to eat in front of others
- Avoidance of family and social events that involve eating
- Avoidance of family and social events due to drooling
- Social isolation
