Physical complications in patients with dysphagia
Patients with dysphagia (swallowing problems) may experience a number of physical complications:
- Aspiration pneumonia (occurs when foreign materials such as food, liquids, fluid from the mouth are breathed into the lungs)
- Malnutrition
- Dehydration
- Weight loss
- Airway obstruction
- Urinary tract infections
