Dysphagia |
Strategies:
- Ensure correct consistencies and textures at all times (SLT assessment and advice); however also ensure that food and drink is presentable and appetising
- Monitor for any signs or symptoms of dysphagia at any time of the day, not just at meal times
- Consider 5 small meals per day to reduce fatigue and risk
- Ask for a food diary to be kept so that a true picture of intake can be checked – especially ‘treats’ that family may give between meals that may not be appropriate if certain textures and consistencies are required
- Consider fortifying food and drink, with advice from a dietician
