Mobility Aids
Different mobility aids are available for use indoors and outdoors. Indoors it is important to ensure that the patient has sufficient space to move with apparatus around the home. Available mobility aids include:
- Zimmer frame (available with seats and in shapes to assist the patient when rising from a seated position
- Walking trolley with trays/shelves for moving objects from one room to another
Walking Aids
- Walking stick
- Quad walking stick for patients who require a little more stability
- Rollators are available with detachable trays, baskets and bags. Rollators are also available with push down breaks for patients with poor grip
- Wheel chairs (push, electric, self-propel)
The provision of other aids and adaptations in the home such as ramps and hand rails should be assessed whilst the ESD team are visiting. It is not necessary to have these fitted before discharge home as requirements may change early in rehabilitation
