Common difficulties

• Often the patient will report the affected arm to be “useless” and not use it

• Manipulation and keeping hold of objects

• Controlling the force and direction of movements

• Using hand for precise movements

• Identifying items by touch (stereognosis)

• Using arm /leg when out of sight (i.e. walking)

• Decreased safety - knocking affected arm or leg, lying or sitting on limb, burning or cutting self etc.
