Apraxia – motor |
Ideomotor apraxia
- Ideomotor apraxia involves the loss of kinesthetic memory of motor patterns. i.e. the motor plan for a specific task may be lost or the motor plan may be intact but the patient is unable to access it and therefore may implement an inappropriate motor plan for a specific task
- The patient is able to explain how to perform an action, but unable to "imagine" or act out a movement such as "pretend to brush your teeth”
- The patient may be able to perform a specific task automatically when presented with a visual cue, such as offering the patient a comb, but the patient may not be able to carry out a specific task on command
