Changes to the benefits system
The benefits system is complex and changes frequently. As at July 2012, the Government is planning the following changes to the benefits system:
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be replaced by a benefit called Personal Independence Payment (PIP) from April 2013 for new applicants and over the period October 2013 to March 2016 for existing DLA recipients
- Universal Credit will replace Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Working Tax credit and Child Tax Credit for new claimants, or those already receiving these benefits with a change in circumstances, from October 2013
