Aids
There are a number of aids that are available for patients that may assist with both the preparation and eating of food. These include:
- Fixed (mounted) tin openers and stabilisers for jars and bottles
- Plates with lips that prevent food from spilling over the edges
- Plates with suction pads
- Straws or beakers to avoid dribbling liquids when drinking
- If a patient is unable to prepare food, it is important to ensure that meals can be prepared by a family member, care assistant or delivered by a meals at home service
