• The patient is sat on an appropriate chair
• They have the appropriate utensils
• They have appropriately fitting dentures where needed
• The patient can reach the food in front of them
• Food is placed within the patient's visual field
• The patient is able to cut food (for example, they may be able to cut a potato but not a piece of meat)
• Food is at an appropriate consistency
• Plenty of time is given for mealtimes
