What could you do?
- Consult the notes - have any cognitive screens been completed during admission?
- Ask the patient and her husband whether they have noticed any changes in her cognition
- Liaise with OT - OT may want to complete a cognitive assessment to establish which area of cognition is affected or may want to undertake more detailed assessment at the appropriate level, for instance the BADS or EFPT for executive dysfunction
- Offer education regarding the difficulties
- Establish which tasks in everyday life this is impacting on and set up a treatment plan accordingly
- Mock up work situations to see if these difficulties are likely to impact on role
- Consider liaison and support for employer and graded return to work if appropriate to return
