Visual problems |
Useful strategies for people with visual problems:
- Wearing a patch may be useful when reading or watching television for patients with double vision
- Patients with visual field loss may find it useful to move their head toward the affected side when scanning for objects; this will reduce the risk of bumping into objects or tripping
- When reading, mark the beginning and end of the line or sentence
- When reading, use rulers or markers to help keep position within the text
- De-clutter when performing tasks such as cooking so that it is easier to identify objects
- When walking or undertaking activities, it may be helpful to the patient to walk on their affected side
Patients with visual problems are more likely to fall and trip. See the Falls module in this training package for tips on how reduce trip hazards in the home.
