Splints |
Splint care
- Splints can be handwashed in warm water using a little soap or detergent and a nail brush
- Splints should be dried naturally; excess water can be blotted with a towel or paper towel
- Splints should not be tumble dried or placed on radiators to dry
- If a splint requires re-shaping this should be discussed with an OT
When not to wear a splint
If any of the following are noticed on the upper limb, the splint should not be worn and the patient should be referred to OT:
- Red marks or abrasions due to rubbing
- Swelling, irritation or rashes
- Unusual pain, numbness or stiffness
