Consider how you could support a patient and/or family member with the following concerns:
- A patient is worried that having sex may cause another stroke
- A patient is worried that their partner will no longer find them attractive
- A male patient has reported that he is suffering with erectile dysfunction; he is taking medication to lower his blood pressure
- A patient’s spouse is assisting with personal care needs. They are no longer intimate but were before her stroke. Both are concerned what the future holds for their relationship
- A female patient, with an indwelling urinary catheter, says ‘well that’s my sex-life gone’.
