Neuropathic or central post-stroke pain
For patients with neuropathic or central post-stroke pain there may be some overlap with spasticity (where muscles tighten up and can’t be straightened out) causing painful muscular spasms and sensory loss which can be associated with unpleasant sensory phenomena.
Patients may describe neuropathic or central post-stroke pain in a variety of ways:
- Intermittent to constant
- Mild to extremely painful
- Sharp to loss of feeling
- Patients may also find certain sensations such as touch, hot and cold painful
