Motor & Sensory Cortical Representation
The motor and sensory signals go to specific areas of the brain called the motor and sensory cortex.
These areas are of different sizes as they are associated with different areas of the body, depending on the extent of the motor and sensory control required. For example, hand movement requires fine control so has a large representation in the cortex compared to the elbow, which requires less (see the homunculus).
