Balance and stairs
Using stairs can be difficult and unsafe for patients following a stroke. This can be due not only to poor balance but also to problems with vision, sensation and cognition.
Patients should be assess by a physiotherapist and may be recommended to:
- ascend with unaffected leg leading and staff behind, or
- descend with affected leg leading and staff in front
