Activity 1
You are seeing a 65 year old gentleman who has recently retired from work as a taxi driver. Prior to this stroke which has affected his brain in the right hemisphere, he was supporting his mother in the community who has dementia, providing her with her main meals and taking her shopping. During your interventions with him you notice the following:
- He stumbles when turning
- He avoids walking up stairs and walking on uneven surfaces
- He is able to read, has no problems locating kitchen items in their usual place and making a meal, but often fails to notice where he has just put his glasses, can’t always locate items in a drawer and frequently bangs in to doorways on the left
- He has full range of movement in the left upper limb but appears not to use the arm when working in the kitchen
